On the shores of Melbourne's South Yarra River, a residential design combining landscape, light and humanity is unfolding quietly.
BY ARCHITECTURAL FIRM Carr, Texas Joystick, developed by Cbus Property and Sterling Global Como Collectible House, not just a construction, but an architectural poem that dances with nature. It is not a huge apartment building, but is built by Integrated residential complex consisting of eight three-storey buildingsSlowly tell the story that belongs to this land, as it interacts with the river, the sun, and the city, in the winding arrangement of the terrain.
Como's base is 26 meters apart. Such terrain conditions are both a challenge and an opportunity for architects.
Carr chose to arrange the building blocks, slightly shifting and rotating along the landscape, allowing each home to maximize views, sunlight, and ventilation, while maintaining privacy between each other.
The arrangement of public spaces is equally important. Stairs and winding paths run through the entire community, connecting eight buildings with courtyards and alleys between them, not only facilitating interaction among residents, but also giving people a closer contact with nature.
Como's design vocabulary is influenced by the history of the surrounding community—early 20th century apartment buildings cleverly handled the gaps with stairs, giving the large buildings a sense of friendliness that walks the scale of the walk.
Continuing this urban heritage, Carr designed a series of collectible homes on a personalised scale. The vertical staircase in the middle section combines the greenery of the landscape, which not only respects the downhill terrain, but also makes the overall community friendlier and more fun for pedestrians.
Como uses plenty of native materials, emphasizing a spatial experience of “inner calm”:
In residential interiors, this set of material color palette provides residents with a textural base for a personalized space. As the natural light changes, the light moves between the walls and the floor, making the space look like a carved modern cave.
Between the two buildings there are green alleys or courtyards, which are not only conduits, but also a social stage where residents can sit and chat, and children can run and play.
The lower floors are arranged perpendicular to the river bank, and the upper floors are slightly angled, allowing everyone to enjoy a wide view and avoid interference with each other's vision, achieving a “privacy in the open” design balance.
The landscape design of the whole project uses local species and sustainable planting methods that are not only beautiful, but also ecological diversity and are friendly to the local natural environment.
Collective design is a common practice in high-end residential areas to better fit the terrain, reduce visual pressure, while promoting a sense of community and personal privacy.
The design has been integrated with stairs and a gentle path, with ease of use and architectural expression, which is a great pleasure for those who like to walk.
Toughened and sandblasted concrete are highly durable and have climate and usage habits in mind in their design. Practicality and aesthetics are combined.
Due to the precise design, more public spaces are located in the gap between buildings, away from the main windows and sheltered from the wind and sun, improving the quality of living space.
Ideal for mid-to-high-end buyers and residents who love nature, value privacy and community interaction, prefer modern aesthetics but hate systematic construction.
The Como Collectible House is not just a rethinking of architectural structure, but a profound response to the relationship between people and nature.
Through design, Carr tells a quiet yet level-filled story: You don't live in a building, you live in a rhythm shared by the sun, the river, and the scenery.
If your desire is not just to “live” but to build a deeper connection with life, then Como is a way to live a life worth imagining.
